Women Hold Up Half the Sky.

In light of International Women's Day, this post is dedicated to all women around the world. Girls and women, we are powerful and soldiers in our dresses and heels. Change is slow but the world is recognizing the value of women and giving us more rights. We need to stand up for ourselves, screw the rules and push the boundaries. We need to remove our high heels and smash the glass ceilings with it. We need to stand up for ourselves and let the world know that we're not weak and helpless, that we didn't ask to be raped, that we need to be recognized for our contributions to the family, that we need to be given an equal opportunity in the workforce and we have a place in the cop orate settings, that we are given sufficient benefits to handle both family and work. 

But we mustn't forget the plight of the less fortunate women. We need to let others know, that many girls around the world in countries such as Afghanistan & Cambodia aren't allowed to go to school, that baby girls in poor villages in China and India are buried alive, that women in Turkey or Iran may be killed for having an affair while men walk free, that girls as young as 10 years old are forced to marry men as old as their fathers and grandfathers in Saudi Arabia, that many women in Africa die in childbirth due to poor medical facilities, that the Taliban is becoming increasingly strict and forbidding women in Afghanistan from even stepping out the house, that women in Saudi Arabia are still not allowed to drive, that many women aren't allowed to retain custody of their children in Saudi Arabia upon a divorce, that men can easily obtain a divorce but the same task is virtually impossible for a woman, and that violence against women is still happening to women all around the world. 

Today is for the women who fight for other women, for the women fighting patriarchy, for the women who have given birth and got back to business after, for the women who sacrifice for their family, for the women lobbying for more rights for her female friends around the world, and for the women beating stereotypes and fighting to make their mark in the wold.

Women matter, because women hold up half the sky.
